Would it make sense to measure a piston assembly (parts not put together) and 0 out the scale with the components on it, then remove the components and move on to the next piston assembly (parts not together) and see if your fluctuation is outside of your desired spec? Then obviously repeat this without zeroing but still documenting the values. Then if you find that your numbers are out of spec, deep dive into the individual components. Theoretically this could save a small amount of time if you find the measurements to be within desirable range across the collection.

It appears that for the best precision it's important to balance each component across the individual components.
