How do you seal when you want to install a girdle ?
It will depend on the specific engine and the girdle design. Seems that the normal practice is a LIGHT smear, or line, of sealant - you don't want too much as it may get squeezed out inside the engine and, in time, break off and block the oil pump intake - it has killed a fair number of engines!
My personal view is they should be manufactured with a groove for inserting a rubber seal, as that would more firmly clamp the girdle to the block for even greater stiffness, but that seems to be just me ;-)
