Hi Everyone

I am currently watching the Practical Reflash Tuning training. In Step 3: Configure Base Tune File you discuss the operation of some maps, limiters and how the ECU works. Each of these cars has different ECUs and its operating principle. I would like to know where to get knowledge about the way of algotythms and how the ECU works and the differences between them.

There are many ROM editors, and Re-flash programs, and Standalone ECU's and software's. While the tuning theory and fundamentals can be applied to any engine within reason, you'll find that (arguably) the most important aspect of EFI tuning, is learning how each software communicates to the ECU. The tool is only as good as the person using it. The more you are familiar with the software/program the better. Since there are so many options in the market, and so many platforms, to properly tune the vehicle you need a solid understanding of how that particular software communicates to the ECU. Each ECU/Software will vary in their control strategies, layout, fuel models, design, etc. It's our job to understand how to navigate the software, and comprehend how the changes are being made. You can achieve the same result on on the same engine, using 2 different programs and more than likely the process of achieving what you're trying to accomplish will be entirely different for each.

Most programs/software's come with a help guide that in detail (most of the time) will explain how each of the parameters, options, tools, etc. work within that specific program. I think of a new system that I haven't worked with yet as a town with streets, and the help guide as the street signs.

Perhaps that helped
