Haven't dove this far into tuning before, so I'm sure things are not optimal, but I need some professional advise as well as "hands on instruction" the courses are great, but I need some further education in this manner. so here is what I have.

I need better instructions on getting my eq ratio a little better I believe see what you think

I have an idle issue here where if you rev the vehicle it hangs at 1000 rpm, Ive tried a few different things but haven't figured it out yet ? any and all help is much appreciated, also during cold start it almost stalls but catches itself usually if your able to see what that might be in the tune file I would appreciate the heads up, haven't logged a cold start since it did it though.

most recent tweaks, it really has been stressing me out cause first start up this truck had a failed DW injector, so then we put new 8.1 34# injectors in, then our wideband took a crap and quit working, so Im out of my element a little tuning off stft err's and also gun shy now .... please and thanks for the assistance and education

If you're having your idle hang then it's usually related to your Base Running Airflow table which you can find under the Idle -> Airflow tab. If the values here are too high the idle will hang. Alternatively if they are too low you'll have stalling issues. You can set up a histogram to log mass airflow vs ECT with the same break points as the base running airflow table. Start the engine from completely cold and allow it to warm up completely while scanning. Once the table is populated copy it into your calibration. You'll need to do this in P/N and in gear to fill the table completely. I'd say you'll need to reduce the values by around 2 g/s.

Ideally you want to follow the instructions in the Practical Reflashing course to dial in your MAF. You can't do this correctly without a wideband, particularly in the open loop areas of operation. In closed loop you can do a reasonable job by either disabling LTFT and then using your STFT histogram vs MAF frequency, or alternatively there is the option to use the parameter STFT + LTFT to fill this historgam.

Thank you for that information Andre, I will get another wide-band ordered up, not sure what is killing the 2 I had, but they both test bad now, one was used several times, but the other was brand new and it died during the first data log on this truck, maybe that failing DW injector is what killed it ? IDK

Thanks again I greatly appreciate what you are doing for us !!

No problem Steve! I doubt the faulty injector would kill the wideband myself.

Hey Andre, needing a couple more things on this truck, the truck when cold shifts into drive a little hard, but doesn't do that when warm is that anything in the tune or possibly a trans issue you think ?, also the truck has set p0300 at idle twice now and i haven't sorted that out yet, to me it doesn't seem to be actual misfires, could the cam cause this or what do you think?

The P0300 code is quite common when you've installed a larger cam. The fix is to just disable the code in the HP Tuners software.

You may find that the hard shifting is the result of a higher cold idle speed to suit the cam. This is going to depend how high your idle speed is but it isn't uncommon with a stock convertor. Have you made any changes to the trans calibration?

Thanks that's good news on the P0300 I was hoping that's all that it was so Ive done what you suggested and disabled the code,,,

As for the transmission, there are slight changes in it, but they where also changes from the previous engine (4.8) and now with the new 6.0 its not really the same at all, it does ok, but definitely needs some help, as there isn't much info in your courses for Transmissions with HPT I haven't messed with it much at all myself, the Idle is slightly higher (cold 850rpm and warm 750rpm) due to the cam but after warm up it doesn't do it, so I wasn't 100% sure what to even look for there but its not a major issue either.

On a side note do you have any plans on a course that covers HP tuners Real Time Tuning function, I haven't used it much but it seems it could be beneficial for quickly sorting things out, someone with your expertise could probably shed more light on that subject I'm sure.

Does your ECU have a trans shift airflow table? It's possible that this is too high in the areas you're having trouble. Alternatively you may find that the in gear base running airflow table may be a touch high in the colder ECT zones.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
