does anyone know how exactly the system works? the part im wondering about is how does it add the timming? so if it says in the avcs table that its at say 20 degrees does that mean its going to add in 20 degrees on top of what is in the base ignition table or does that mean it will be at 20 degrees all together combined with what is in the table?
You may be confusing valve timing with ignition timing. Completely separate things (although, you may need to adjust ignition timing as the valve timing changes to improve the amount of air and fuel that fill a cylinder).
The valve timing table, will advance the intake cam relative to it's "rest" position.
