Hi everyone,
I've just purchased an MPVI4. As I'm starting out in the remapping business, I chose the MPVI4 mainly because of its lower cost.
Now I'm facing a dilemma. In the Practical Reflash Tuning course, one of the first steps is to read the entire ECU memory in bench mode, so you have a secure full backup. That way, if the ECU ever gets bricked, you have a chance to recover it.
From what I can tell, the MPVI4 only reads the calibration over OBD, not the full memory — is that correct, or is there a way to get a complete bench read with it?
For those of you who have been using the MPVI4 for a while: could you share your experience with the tool, especially when it comes to recovering bricked ECUs? How exposed am I really without a full bench backup? Or recover the ECU writing the full memory?

Hey there I have actualy only used the MPVI2 and MPVI3 and they both do full reads. If I understand correctly almost all tuners will do a full read for the very reason you said... recovering and ECM as well as being able to do a full flash. What you could do to make sure though is open a support ticket with HPTuners and double check that though!! Cheers.
Also I think the HPTuners software is a great starting program!! Easy to use and good support!
