Hey guys! I'm working with a 2013 E82 BMW 135i, fitted with the N55 engine; and the low pressure fuel sensor seems to be missing and not present. I've looked at some forums, and people did say that some models didn't come with them, and instead they calculated the low pressure fuel level digitially - somehow. My question is, do I need the low pressure fuel sensor, or can I do something like the oem method? I figured I would need one in order to control the low pressure fuel pump, but It's very difficult to add a low pressure fuel line to the fuel rail, since there is only a very small metal portion of the fuel rail, that leads into the HPFP.
What should I do?
I belive these engines are direct injection only and don't have port injection?
The actual pressure of the low pressure side of the fuel system is less critical in this case.
The fuel is entirely delivered though the DI and this is where the injector differential pressure is determined.
If the in tank fuel pump has variable control this would be based on the ECUs calculated fuel flow.
Ok got it, and yes I'm working with direct injection only. For fuel pump control, do you recommend that I setup a duty cycle based on the volumetric fuel consumption calculation? Do I still need a low pressure fuel sensor, or would the duty cycle take care of that instead? I do have a fuel rail pressure sensor, that I can read to ensure that high pressure is being provided, if not; ramp up fuel pump duty cycle as a correction factor - otherwise enable fault mode.
Are you using the stock BMW DME or an aftermarket ECU?
The answer really depends on what capabilities the ECU has.
