Hi,
i am a little stumped on an ignition issue I've been having.
For context - car ran well before installing everything
5-0 ignite r8 coil conversion with Bosch r8 coils
top feed rail, 1000cc injectors
Can/Lambda
Stock CAS
Link G4x plug in NS15X 64 pin
I have had car running with very rich mixture but it was misfiring badly, wouldn't idle. I pulled the plugs and 1 & 2 are sooty and 3 & 4 dead clean, slightly wet, In link ignition test mode No.1 sparks nice and strong but nothing on 2,3 & 4 (yes i used respective ign test channel for corresponding cylinder). I have visible spark on 1 & 2 with engine winding over, nothing on 3 & 4. Originally only 1 & 2 would trigger timing light, then 3 joined in when battery connected to running vehicle, 4 was inconsistent until a shimmed adapter plate as it was leaning over slightly, now all 4 flash timing light consistently. Still no visible spark on 3 & 4.
Feed and ground to coils all tested good, tested loom to ecu header plug, no resistance on ign output/trigger wires. Tested ign trigger wire continuity to ground, no issues there.
If i jump ign 1 trigger to coil 3 & 4 i get a nice strong spark, so there is power available at coil it just isn't being triggered even though timing light registers a pulse being delivered.
I see a few trig 1 faults when cranking but not when it's running, even though it is missing.
I checked each ign trigger wire at coil plug with multimeter, and with ign test set to off results are as follows;
1- 0.0v
2- 10.8v
3- 0.0v
4-10.8v
Not sure if this is relevant, i know the multimeter won't be able to pick up a pulse but i would've thought there should be nothing there when ign test off and no crank.
I'm thinking i may have configured something wrong, but it all looks OK to me.
I'm sure i've forgotten some of the other things I checked but any help would be appreciated
Update - I switched the Ign drives around so coil 4 was Ign drive 1 etc. And coil 1 would always spark in test function, no matter which drive it was assigned, but coil 2,3 & 4 wouldn't spark when ign drive 1 was assigned to them. Beginning to suspect loom issue?
Cheers,
Jude
Sorry for the slow reply, I dont visit here very often. You would be better to post on the Link forum for quicker help.
It sounds like you may have the jumpers fitted in the wrong positions.
