Good day everyone, I’m new to this whole ECU remapping topic and I’d like to know if you have any recommendations on how to get started or what steps I should take to get into it. So far, I haven’t worked with engines,I only know how to repair suspension. For context, I’m currently studying software engineering and I’d like to know if that helps in any way.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I would start with just trying to understand how an internal combustion engine works. What are the parts (Crankshaft, Camshaft, Valves, Rods, Pistons and Cylinder head, Spark plugs, Coils, throttles, manifolds, etc). Then learn how an EFI system uses it's inputs to determine what fuel to inject, and what time it ignite the air/fuel mixture. Remapping (modifying a stock ECU) is easy in some ways because it's usually already running, but more difficult in that OEM ecus are much more complex and not always documented like you would find with the standalone ECU.

There are good fundamental courses here to get your education started, but look beyond just that and explore any term or part you aren't clear as to it's function.

Stay curious.
