Hello all, I have to make a new harness for a BMW and it contains twisted pairs for ethernet connections. I found part of an OEM harness and I noticed the ethernet cables have a grey/silver cloth like tape around each end of the wire. I need to make two more twisted pairs of ethernet wires and was wondering where I could purchase the tape from. All I can find doing a search for BMW tape is the black Tesa type. I'm assuming this tape has some kind of EMI properties maybe? Or maybe it's just the same black Tesa tape but in grey/silver? Forgot to mention, the width is roughly 9mm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think that's just for abrasion resistance.
Thanks David for the response. That's what it looks like, there doesn't seem to be anything special about it, just a woven cloth. Maybe it's an indicator that it's ethernet? Any idea where I might find something like that? All that I can seem to find is black. I'd like to keep it as factory looking as I can. Thanks again.
Another reason might be to keep the twisted pairs, twisted.
That's a possibility too, the two twisted pairs I have to create run from the driver's side footwell all the way back to the passenger's side cargo area. Now I have to try and find some :).
Perhaps one of these sources will work for you:

Thanks! I was always adding "harness" to my google searches. I'll take a look!
