Hello,
I am having trouble trying to connect my MoTeC M4 S/N 6449 to the PC.
My issue here is that when I bought the ECU I did not receive additional connecting cable needed to connect it to the PC.
I decided to contact MSEL for help and they told me that PCI cable will not be needed in my case because my serial number is above 3000 and the connector that I am looking for is no longer produced by MoTeC.
Does anybody know which components will be needed to produce and how to produce this connecting cable or at least where to buy it ?
Thank you
Hi Luka,
I don't think its that straight forward with these early Motec ECU and there was some logic built into the comms lead.
Have you tried M-Cal in the UK, maybe they can point you in the right direction - https://m-cal.com/en-gb/
The early M4 / M48 had TTL-level RS-232, so the PCI (PC Interface) cable had an RS-232 driver chip I believe. I agree with MSEL, that you just need a proper DB-9 to connect to either a PC with a RS-232 serial port, or a USB serial adapter (I have had really good luck with the TripLite/Keyspan USA-19HS serial adapter). That is what I use for all my M4/M8/M48 work.
Here is the Manual with wiring for the Serial Port shown - I would use the M48-pinout shown on pg 56 if you since you just need just need the serial signals.
Hi Luka,
You only need a serial cable to communicate with the M4 that you have, the PCI cable is needed for the pre 3000 serial number M4's, all M4-8's and the M8.
I have attached the pinout for the serial connection needed for your M4. @David, that wiring on Pg.56 is for a PCI cable. The M4 Serial communications uses Pins 2, 3 and 5 on a DB9 Female connector.
