wasn't Shure where to ask this but I've go a mk3 supra with a 1.5jz, I've done all the wiring myself, I've used the maxx ecu relay/fuse box and I've noticed some of the relays are getting rather hot (measured 90c) everything ive added runs of this box (radiator fans, fuel pump, ecu, coils ect) everything has its own relay, just wondering if its normal or expected to see these temps, doesn't feel like any wires are getting hot just the relays.
thanks in advance
That's getting VERY hot, IMO, but I really don't have a proper reference.
What are the currents going through the relays, and what amperage rating do they have? Oh, and are they new or used, as over time the contacts wear/erode and will affect the voltage drop across them and that increases the heat from the contacts.
the fuse box is brand new (comes with the relays) not 100% Shure on the current but i would assume the radiator fans draw the most followed by the fuel pump, i have no way to measure the current, I've used 15amp wire for the fans and fuel pump, the relays are JD1914, the fuel pump should only be drawing 12-13amps under full boost, from memory the fans are 15amps each however they are both fed of a single relay
If you have two fans on a single relay, that may be getting close to it's rating - some sites cite 30A and others 40A for them, but it should be marked on the relay. However, if it was that close I'd expect the fuse (rating?) to blow before the relay had a problem. Which fans are you running?
Oh, the ratings are cited for "80C ambient temperature", so that suggests a bit of overhead. How did you measure the temperatures?
the fans are just cheap 12" that came with my fan shroud, 40A relays with 30A fuse, i have a temp gun i used, i could wire up another relay so each fan has its own?
