Sensor/ECU Wire Naming Discrepancy

Sometimes, when talking about different sensors, I noticed that you may say “sensor output wire” and other times you may say “sensor input pin”. Is there a difference here, or is it just different terminology based on whether you are talking about the connector pins, wires, or ECU inputs vs the sensor outputs (which would be connected in some way or another)? Please let me know and thank you for your time!
