Hi, I’m working on my 62 vette restomod engine harness.

its got an LSX 454 crate motor, 6 speed trans.

ECM is an E38. My engine harness is a modified one out of a 2007 Z06. It has been working fine it just does not look very good, wanting to tidy things up.

so for sheathing , I have several possibilities and looking for suggestions / ideas on which to use.

i have depinned harness so no split loom.

1) PET braid - this is easiest install but it’s not my 1st choice

2) DR-25- I’ve heard this is better for concentrically twisted harness not so good on conventionally bundled - so probably not

3) techflex nylon multi filament braid- like the looks of this, but difficult to install since expands only a little

4) heat shrink able braided fabric. This looks pretty good

Im mainly talking about sheathing for the main trunk of harness

Do you usually tape harness underneath sheathing with TESA 51036 or other tape.

2) what do you do for fuel injector / coil branches

3) I’m using heat insulated sleeves on hot sensors - what type of heat shrink would you use here? I have Atum and some heavier duty stuff

4) and finally anyone have a recommendation for a crimper for Molex MX123 ECM termina ls . Didn’t want to spend $900US

for the Molex one. I have a Molex 63811-4400 that sort of works w difficulty

Thanks for the help and advice!

I did take the wiring harness HP course,

Dave

DR-25 will work just fine even if the harness isn't concentrically twisted. You can just twist the bundle of wires and have most of the flexibility you get from concentric twisting. I've worked on a couple of LS-powered projects, and I've used 80% factory harnesses just re-sheathed in DR-25.

Thanks for that advice, good to know. How do you deal with the branch points. I have the two bundles going to ECM connector then consolidates to one bundle , first branch off is sensors, starte solenoid, then next is fuel inj, coil harness, then straight section behind engine, oil press sensor, then engine sensors then bank1 inj/coil, sensors bundle. I’m gonna rewatch fundamentals again on this .

I typically just use adhesive lined heat shrink where there is a branch. For strain relieve, I will often tie the multiple branches with a wire tie right at the end of the adhesive heat shrink.

Here is an example of what that looks like (see red circled area)

Thanks, that helps!

Thanks, that helps!

Any suggestions for coil/ inj

bundles w valve cover mounted coils.

i was thinking Tesa 51036 tape here. Would be difficult to sheath

Thanks Dave

It's probably different than your application, but the dimensions could be similar. Sheathing with some of the non-split options can be done even on short branches, it just takes planning and some effort.
