I'm curious what rpm/hp levels would you decide to go to a cdi ignition system?
To be honest, these days there is less reason to go to a CDI than in the past. With some of the high energy inductive coils available on the market, these rival the spark energy of a CDI with less expense and better reliability.
There's no real clear line in the sand of where a CDI is going to be an essential item. It comes down to specific power levels as well as fuel. A fuel like methanol for example needs a lot more spark energy to light off than petrol. On our 4G63 drag engines I would move to a CDI at power levels of about 250 hp per cylinder. Even at this level though I had no trouble with an inductive ignition system on VP Q16 fuel.
I'm not sure if that helps you or confuses you further sorry :)
