Hello everyone,

How do you properly break in a rebuilt diesel engine on the road? Also, is it necessary to use mineral oil during the break-in period, even for commercial engines?

Thank you

Hello, i do not have expeeience with car engine, but with smaller diesel. From my research it came out it is quite similiar, the brake in, with adjustments to times between throttle(heating part) and the cool down. What is the trick to break in is to make the components sattle so with diesel I would go with little increased times for both cooldown period and heat period, since the diesel is operating with higher pressure an most likely higher temperature.

As for lubricating I would recommend it, because the thickness of the mineral based oil prevents any excesive wear during the break in, it depends on what you want to achive.
