Im building an m20 engine for an E30. engine will be getting ITBs, aftermarket ecu and all the required accessories.
Curious to get some opinions whether to got with my original plan or go stroker crank. The car usually spends most of the time revving between 4,000 and redline when driven.
My original plan was to go with increasing the rod to stroke ration which factory is 1.8:1. 135mm rod length and 75mm stroke. the factory compression ratio is 9.7:1 that will be pushed up to around 11.5:1 maybe closer to 12:1.
Alternatives were either going with a 84mm stroke crank, or 89.6mm stroke crank. these would be coming from an m52 or m54 block. in these cases an aftermarket piston will also be chosen to take the compression to around 11:1
Problem is with those crank setups the rod to stroke ratio takes a huge hit. Goes down to 1.5:1 or 1.6:1. the engine is gonna have redline around 7500 rpm since the cam in it would be a 284/272 cam. something that is a decent performance boost plus good on the street. the car will be spending most of the time on the street.
Any recommendations on what to go with
