Question:

How do one improve the breather system on a modified 1.5 litre Toyota 1NZ turbo engine?

Works done to the engine:

1. Installation of forge piston and connecting rods

2. Added a turbo to the engine and other associated components to complete the modification required to acquire a functional turbo engine

Challenges experiencing since the modification:

1. Blow by (vapour) observed from the dipstick

2. Oil stain observed within the turbo exhaust turbine housing.

Hypothesis (theory):

Excessive crank case pressure resulting in increased blow by at the existing valve cover breather and PCV.

Excessive crank case pressure restricting the free flow of oil to drain from the turbo to the crank case. This results in oil stain observed at the turbo exhaust case house.

The existing stock breather system on the engine isn't adequate to remove the increased crank case pressure produced from the turbo modification.

I welcome imputs to how I can resolve these challenges, especially the oil entering the exhaust housing.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
