Soon Ill be traveling to Japan to tune a friends car.

The car is a GT86 that will be converted to Haltech Elite while keeping the oem ecu to control the direct injection.

The car will be using an individual throttle body setup that incorporates the oem drive by wire throttle actuator. Due to a lack of support with ecutek in Japan we saw the haltech as the only viable option as there is a plug and play adapter.

My main question is how would i go about the fuel tuning characteristics if the oem ecu is controlling the direct injection? is the FA20 direct/port injection active simultaneously? Is the port injection only active during high load situations? I'm just a little confused because the goal is to convert this to speed density and have the ability to run open throttles.

Not everybody all at once lol

It's something few are going to be familiar with, yet alone feeling able to comment - like myself.

Good luck with it, though - have you checked the HALTECH forums, or asked their advice? I'd expect them to suggest means for using their ECU for the direct(?) injection and, as it reads, the secondary port injectors, too.

I'm familiar with this, but sadly I don't think the correct answer will be what you're hoping to hear.

The PI/DI ratio varies with engine operating conditions. It is not an on/off switch, so it blends in and out, and the control logic is multi layered so you won't find it wholly predictable.

Combine that with closed loop fueling system fighting changes you make on the piggyback, and I don't think this will go your way.

That said, I think there are some alternate paths to success.

You could run PI only with the ECU you've chosen, or PI+DI with an ECU capable of handling both i.e. Motec.
