Been looking at the possibility of blanking the squirters off the 4g63t seeing as i have the wiseco 2618 pistons which dont really require cooling. I can then retain that oil loss to keep pressures better in check. However i havent seen anyone stating definitely if they do blank them and if there is a kit available, my thoughts are just to cut the squirters off and weld them shut.
It's absolutely not necessary. 4g63 oil pump is known for overpressure the system at high revs so plugging the oil squirters ain't gonna help with that. Besides any piston would benefit from additional heat removal in terms of knock threshold...
Talking to wiseco on the matter they said not required to have squirters for street/drag application.
Shota has a LOT of experience with the engines, and I'd defer to him and he makes excellent points, anyway :-)
You don't say how hard you're going to be leaning on the engine, but keeping the pistons cooler has only positive values.
About the only negative, which is minor, is there will be a little more oil flying around and adding to windage.
The plan is 800 on e85 so cooling wouldnt be an issue. I was just tossing around the idea.. not shooting down his opinion just learning and wasnt seeing any convos about it online. Ive used the non squirter type block and got good results and good oil pressure.
As we know alcohol fuel is washing out oil from the top of the bore- that's another reason to keep squirters in place. We want to ensure maximum lubrication everywhere at all times. I'm keeping oil squirters in place on my 4g 2.4l stroker with pte 6466 making 800+ hp on E66 and E85. The other reason is the piston mean speed - once you go past 25-26 m/sec you need to ensure best lubrication you can provide to avoid microwelding between piston rings and cylinder wall so keeping squirters in place would help with that too. Even in F1 and NASCAR most of the times they don't go past that number...
I really appreciate the advice.. most forums dont have much on the topic.
I had a friend of mine using 2JZ NA short block without oil squirters for drag racing having about 600 hp at the crank. He was making 11 sec ET. So having a load of 100 hp per cylinder just for 11 seconds with piston mean speed around 22 m/sec wouldn't be an issues at all. In your case you are talking about 160 hp per cylinder for 9ish seconds with piston mean speed about 26-27 m/sec on alcohol fuel. Just to ensure additional safety margin I would keep squirters in place since it doesn't cost you anything - they are already there...
