I have to pot a homeywell pressure sensor to prevent it fouling a coolant hose. Can someone explain what i need to do to create the flying leads? Am I soldering the wires direct to the pins or using the sockets in some way?

This is literally the only one I have to do, is there any cheaper products that can be used instead of the motirsport grade products?

Have you considered using something like an AiM pressure sensor with flying leads? They are very small.

I hadn't, to be honest it's what I currently have lying round the garage, I'm trying to just work with what I've got. It's all going on a road car with stock engine mounts etc so I'm hoping it won't be too harsh to cause any problems. The only problem is clearance. If I directly solder the wires to the pins and pot, I can cut 10mm off the back of the sensor and hopefully get the space i need.

To answer your original question, solder the wires to the pins.
