Discussion and questions related to the course 3D Modelling & CAD for Motorsport.
Hi all! I’m currently trying to design an adapter for my trunk and wing setup. I got a new carbon trunk that has a built in lip that is incompatible with my wing uprights. I have 3d scanned both my trunk and wing and imported them into fusion, and after creating and extruding an oval between the two pieces to get the rough shape I then try to cut the oval using the scans, fusion freezes and then crashes due to the amount of triangles my scanned parts have. Is there a better way for me to go about this? Thanks!
Hey Jack, just incase you haven't seen it we do have a 3D scanning course that should help you out working with these kinds of models.
Regardless i'm happy to help here.
I would avoid trying to do any operation like this using mesh bodies or converting the mesh bodies to surfaces using the "convert mesh" tool in fusion.
The approach i'd recommend is using the mesh as a reference to build some solid bodies or surface bodies and then using these for those operations.
A good place to start would be using the "create mesh section sketch" tool - which essentially creates a section profile where a plane intersects the mesh (you still need to edit the sketch feature this creates and fit curves to the mesh section.
