Discussion and questions related to the course Practical Motorsport Wiring - Professional Level
Hi, With regards to CAN bus wiring, if i have a 4 wire branch that contains CAN H/L, 12v and ground, for example, for a GPS to CAN module. Obviously the CAN wires are twisted together, is it best practice to twist the 12v and ground with that twist, or together then twisted around CAN wires in opposite direction or together then run parallel?
Thanks
I just made a harness like that today. I only twist the CAN wiring, the other wires basically run parallel.
I was using 22 ga wires, and 3/16" DR-25. I don't shrink it too hard to leave some flexibility -- that tends to hide the lumps. Of course, you could add the necessary filler wires and do a full concentric twist. That is probably the best "no budget" practice.
Thanks for your help. Just to be sure, when you are referring to "parallel", are you thinking parallel to the harness (as in straight) or parallel to the twisted pair (as in wrapped around the CAN bus wires)?
The power & ground are parallel to each other and sheathing.
