Want to learn motorsport fabrication? You’re going to need to learn TIG welding.

TIG welding is one of the key welding techniques in motorsport fabrication. The finished product will last for years to come — and look great. With the right TIG machine, and the correct knowledge, you can weld all the popular materials you’ll come across in the motorsport industry.

Traditionally, it’s been difficult for enthusiasts to learn the skills of TIG welding. The conventional path usually involves a fabrication apprenticeship or formal training. While there is nothing wrong with these methods, sometimes fitting in a three-year apprenticeship around your already busy schedule isn’t feasible.

This is where the Practical TIG Welding course comes in.

It will teach you what you need to know about TIG Welding, and how to perfect the TIG process to get great results. You can learn the skills taught in this course at your own pace, meaning it’s never too late at night to start cracking into the next project (although the neighbours might disagree).

Producing high-quality welds start well before you pick up the TIG torch.

In this course, you’ll learn everything from the setup, preparation, and PPE requirements, right through to the gas flow, purging techniques and heat control that you’ll need to know when starting your weld. You’ll also learn some techniques for destructive testing your welds so you can have the confidence that you’re getting the correct amount of penetration, providing a strong and reliable weld.

Learn a 6-step TIG welding process.

Once you’ve mastered both the theory and practical skills taught in the course, you’ll learn a simple 6 step process you can apply to your TIG welding tasks, regardless of what material you’re welding. This makes it easy to ensure you get the right results every single time.

This 6 step HPA Fab welding process is also demonstrated in our library of worked examples where you can watch it being applied on a real fabrication job. In this library, we’ve varied the fabrication materials and projects to give you experience on a wide range of different materials and TIG machines. This library of worked examples is also going to see more models added over time, so it will grow with you.

What you will learn
  • What to look for in a TIG welder with our TIG buyers guide
  • How a TIG welder operates and the settings that are involved
  • The correct shielding gas and gas flow for your task
  • Gas lenses, purging, and how this effects reactive materials
  • Setting up your workspace and the PPE requirements
  • A 6 step process you can apply to any TIG project

Common Questions

Can I watch the course videos whenever suits me?

You can access your course material via our website, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes, we provide a digital certificate of completion with every course you complete. This is great for the workshop wall or CV.

What tools do I need for this course?

The best tool to start with is this course, however, to apply the knowledge taught, you will need access to TIG welder and the associated fabrication tools to prepare your work for welding at a minimum. We recommend you start the course before you buy a welder if you don't already have one, as the more you learn the better you will understand what type of welder is going to suit your workshop the best.

What skill level is this course aimed at?

This course starts right at the beginning making it ideal for beginners with no experience what so ever. It also provides great information at a more intermediate level for those who have already had some experience.

Who is this course NOT for?

If you're looking for a course that will teach you everything a 3 year apprenticeship will, this isn't it. It will be a good starting point, and provide a lot of value for someone learning the TIG process, but it doesn't completely replace an apprenticeship or formal training. However, it will give you a headstart into the industry, and give you some experience to then jump into a career head first.
