Hey guys,

in few days i'll work a car on a dyno.I have question about high boost.I'll try to optimize the car up to 2,5 bar almost going 3bar pressure and i'm kind of afraid how i'm going optimise the ignition spark at this high pressure.Any suggest how to optimize at this boost the ignition safe? And do i need to optimize every cell for rpm vs pressure until 5000rpm?Or is it to risky?

I would only be tuning in steady state up to relatively low boost. From here you would use ramp runs to complete the tuning at WOT.

Start at the lowest boost you can and work up from there. You will find that as you increase the boost you will see a trend of how much timing you need to remove per psi of boost for example and you can then extrapolate that into the higher boost regions. If you're running very high boost on a low grade of fuel then you will almost certainly be knock limited. On our local pump gas I very seldom see and\y power gain from going above about 1.5 bar of boost (gauge pressure). On a good grade of fuel (race gas or E85) then it's a very different deal though.

In general at very high boost levels I would tend to play it a little safe and leave my ignition conservative. As you advance the timing towards MBT you will see that initially you get quite large improvements in power/torque per degree of timing. As you get closer to MBT, the gains start to plateau and this is a sign you're reaching MBT. You may find that there is little improvement over the next few degrees of ignition advance yet you're more likely to end up with knock. Your approach really depends on how strong the engine is. In some instances almost any level of knock at 3 bar of boost can be enough to lift a head or do damage so care is required.

Andre thanks for the reply.

Im going to use at this high boost vp q16.For knock i own plex knock monitor and already have it to retard if knock on ecu. Here we have pump gas 100ron so i think i will get close to max 2.0bar pressure.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
