What Is the HP Tuners MPVI4 Interface?
As of late 2025, the MPVI4 is HP Tuners' newest and most advanced vehicle interface. It replaces previous generations of MPVI hardware with a more powerful processing platform, improved wireless connectivity, and an alleged future-ready architecture. It connects to your vehicle via the OBD-II port and communicates with VCM Suite software on your laptop to enable scanning, diagnostics, and custom tuning.
Like its predecessors, the MPVI4 requires Universal Credits to license the controllers you want to tune. Credits are purchased separately and vary in quantity depending on the make and model.

What Is the Difference Between the HP Tuners MPVI Generations?
The MPVI4 is the latest in a line of interface hardware that HP Tuners has developed over more than two decades. Each generation has introduced meaningful changes to processing power, connectivity, storage, and vehicle support. Here is a brief overview of how the hardware has evolved.
MPVI (Original) - Launched in 2004, the interface that started it all, available in Standard and Pro versions. The Pro version included standalone data logging capability. Credits were brand-specific at this stage, meaning separate GM, Ford, and Dodge credits were required rather than the universal credit system used on later hardware. The MPVI was replaced by the MPVI2 in 2018.
HP Tuners has confirmed that support for the original MPVI will officially end on January 1, 2027, after which no new software updates, features, or technical support will be provided. You can find more details here.
MPVI2 - Launched in June 2018, the MPVI2 introduced the universal credit system, replacing brand-specific credits with a single credit type usable across all supported vehicles. It added a direct-moulded OBD-II connector, 4GB of internal storage, and Bluetooth connectivity. Standalone data logging and standalone flashing were introduced as part of the optional Pro Feature Set, available as a separate purchase. The MPVI2 was replaced by the MPVI2+ in July 2021.
MPVI2+ - Launched in July 2021, an update to the MPVI2 focused primarily on connectivity. The MPVI2+ introduced an M8 motorsports-grade screw-on connector providing two analog inputs and one CAN input for richer data logging when paired with the PROLINK+. USB-C data transfer speed improved significantly over the MPVI2, and Bluetooth 5.0 was introduced. The Pro Feature Set remained a separate purchase at this stage. The MPVI2+ was replaced by the MPVI3 in September 2022.
MPVI3 - Controversially hot on the heels of the MPVI2+, in September 2022 the MPVI3 debuted. By popular demand, the Pro Feature Set was made standard, meaning standalone data logging and PROLINK+ compatibility came included out of the box at no additional cost. The improved chipset choice enabled the addition of Ford EEC-V support, a high-resolution accelerometer, and faster standalone data logging. The MPVI3 was discontinued on October 28, 2025 and replaced by the MPVI4.

Regardless of which generation you are currently running, HP Tuners offers an upgrade path to the MPVI4. All existing credits and vehicle licenses transfer as part of the upgrade process, and brand-specific credits from older MPVI1 hardware convert to universal credits on the new device. The Interface Upgrade is available here. MPVI1 owners must complete their upgrade before January 1, 2027, as that is when official support will cease.
What Are the New Features of the HP Tuners MPVI4?
The MPVI4 introduces several meaningful improvements over previous HP Tuners hardware like the MPVI3:
- Expanded processing power - A dual-core 1.7GHz processor and 1GB of RAM represent a significant step up in hardware capability.
- Wi-Fi connectivity - The MPVI4 includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n support, enabling faster wireless transfer speeds for more efficient tuning sessions. Note that faster Wi-Fi transfer speeds require a future firmware update to activate.
- Improved OBD-II port fitment - A new tapered OBD-II connector provides a stronger, more secure connection across a wider range of vehicle applications.
- Pro Feature Set included - The MPVI4 comes standard with the Pro Feature Set and is compatible with PROLINK+.
What Are the MPVI4's Upgrades?
Here is a full breakdown of the MPVI4's hardware specifications:
- Dual Core @ 1.7GHz
- 1GB RAM
- Bluetooth v5.2
- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (up to 150Mbps) - available with a future firmware update
- Three multicolour RGB indicator lights (Disco, disco!)
The MPVI4 requires VCM Suite 5.2 or later. If you're running an older version of VCM Suite, you'll need to update before using the MPVI4.
How Does MPVI4 Data Logging Compare to Previous Interfaces?
One of the standout improvements in the MPVI4 is its standalone data logging performance. The expanded performance bandwidth and improved memory allow you to log more parameters at higher speeds. HP Tuners also describes their wireless testing experience as comparable to a wired connection. It's not something we have tested yet, but if true, that will save a bit of accidental cable yanking, twisting and bumping. We just hope it is reliable.
For tuners who rely on detailed logs to make calibration decisions, which is anyone not live tuning or road tuning, this is a genuine and practical upgrade over the MPVI3, or even MPVI2 for those still using them in our opinion.
If you're looking to make the most of what the MPVI4 captures, the HPA EFI Tuning Starter Package has tuning courses covering GM, Ford and Dodge petrol applications using HP Tuners, walking you through how to interpret and act on the data you're collecting to reflash tune your own performance vehicle.

What Vehicles Are NOT Compatible with MPVI4?
The MPVI4 is compatible with hundreds of makes and models, including late-model muscle cars, trucks, daily drivers, and powersports vehicles. But there are a small number of controllers that are not yet supported on MPVI4. Some are expected to be added in a future update, including Mopar JTEC, JTEC+, JTEC+B, and NGC3., however, some 'legacy' controllers are not supported and have no planned update at this stage, including Mopar NGC1.
A number of older Dodge, Jeep, and RAM models fall into this Mopar NGC1 category:
- Various 1995-2004 Dodge Dakota, Durango, Viper, and Neon SRT models
- Various 1996-2006 Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler models
- Various 1995-2006 RAM 1500/2500/3500 models, including 2003-2007 5.9L Diesel
HP Tuners has indicated these unsupported models may be added in future updates, but there is no confirmed timeline. If your vehicle is on this list, verify support status before purchasing. All is not lost though! Your alternative option will be a secondhand MPVI3 unit (or new old stock from a reseller).
UPDATE: As of March 10, 2026, HP Tuners added EEC-V support to the MPVI4, bringing a wide range of classic Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury platforms onto the interface with full read, edit, write, and log functionality. Supported EEC-V vehicles include the 1996-2004 Mustang V6 and GT, various Cobra and Mach 1 models, 1997-2004 F-150 and Ranger, 1999-2004 SVT Lightning, 1999-2003 F-250/F-350 7.3L Power Stroke, and a number of SUV and other platforms.
For those running a Ford Power Stroke diesel, it's also worth noting that HPA covers the Ford Power Stroke 6.7L diesel using HP Tuners, so the MPVI4's expanded platform support translates directly into course-backed tuning knowledge for that application too.

What Does HP Tuners Come With?
Each MPVI4 comes with the following:
- MPVI4 Interface
- USB-C cable
- Quick Start Guide
Universal Credits are sold separately. Credits are required to license the controllers you intend to tune, and the number of credits needed varies by make and model. For more details, check out this Getting Started with HP Tuners article.
