What is HP Tuners?

HP Tuners is a popular reflash tuning software platform that first gained widespread recognition for its strong support of GM vehicles. Today, it supports a much broader range of marques across both petrol and diesel applications, including Ford, Nissan, Jeep, Dodge, Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes and Toyota, among many others.

What Tuning Tools Do I Need to Tune With HP Tuners?

HP Tuners is very straightforward when it comes to tuning tools. The main piece of hardware you are purchasing is HP Tuners' proprietary OBD2 MPVI (Multi-Protocol Vehicle Interface) device rather than the software itself. From there, you will need to purchase credits to license your specific vehicle to your specific MPVI interface before you can read, edit or flash that controller.

Other than the HP Tuners MPVI interface tool, all you need is:

  • A tuning laptop
  • A wideband sensor or two (some vehicles come with these stock)

HP Tuners Supported Petrol Vehicles

HP Tuners supports a wide range of petrol vehicles, from late-model GM, Ford, Dodge, Volkswagen Group and Mercedes platforms through to popular engine swap, crate engine and performance applications. While the exact tables below show what can be licensed and accessed, the tuning process still relies on the same fundamentals: understanding air fuel ratio, ignition timing, torque control, boost control, knock control and safe validation. HPA’s EFI tuning starter package is the best place to build that foundation before making calibration changes with HP Tuners or any other reflash tuning package.

TDN: This model is supported for remote tuning through HP Tuners' TDN network with an authorised dealer. Device requirements can vary by controller.

RTD4: This model requires an RTD4 device for TDN remote tuning unless the vehicle-specific note states another supported RTD generation. Older RTD devices may not be supported.

Diesel vehicle tuning setup using HP Tuners software

HP Tuners Supported Diesel Vehicles

HP Tuners diesel support covers many common Duramax, Power Stroke, Cummins, EcoDiesel, TDI, TDCi and Toyota D-4D platforms, as well as selected commercial and international applications. Diesel tuning requires a different approach to petrol tuning, with more focus on torque modelling, boost and fuel delivery, exhaust gas temperature management, smoke control and emissions system strategy. HPA’s diesel tuning courses cover these diesel-specific principles in more detail, helping you understand what the software tables actually control before changing them.

TDN: This model is supported for remote tuning through HP Tuners' TDN network with an authorised dealer. Device requirements can vary by controller.

RTD4: This model requires an RTD4 device for TDN remote tuning unless the vehicle-specific note states another supported RTD generation. Older RTD devices may not be supported.

Motorcycle and powersports ECU tuning workshop

HP Tuners Supported Powersports and Motorcycle Models

HP Tuners also supports a growing range of powersports and motorcycle applications, including motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, snowmobiles and personal watercraft. These vehicles often use smaller, highly stressed engines where correct fuel, ignition, throttle and rev limit calibration can make a noticeable difference to both performance and reliability. HPA’s planned motorcycle-specific tuning course material will be the most relevant starting point here once available. In the meantime, thousands of tuners have already used HPA’s existing course material, which uses car-based examples, to successfully learn the same core tuning principles and apply them to motorcycle applications.

TDN: This model is supported for remote tuning through HP Tuners' TDN network with an authorised dealer. Device requirements can vary by controller.

RTD4: This model requires an RTD4 device for TDN remote tuning unless the vehicle-specific note states another supported RTD generation. Older RTD devices may not be supported.

HP Tuners can also access a range of dedicated transmission controllers and transmission control modules (TCMs), including GM, Ford, ZF, Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/RAM and Volkswagen Group applications. Transmission tuning is not just about making shifts firmer. Correct calibration involves shift scheduling, torque converter lockup, line pressure, torque management and how the transmission interacts with your engine tuning.
